ArktiS' Geocaching Gear

What gear do you need for geocaching? Well the answer to this question lies somewhere between practically-nothing-except-from-reading-the-cache-description and you-will-need-a-lot-of-gear.

»Mand eller Mus« – GC 06 (GCJGRG), Ravnsholt Skov.

Below you see some of the gear I use when geocaching. What I bring along varies from time to time according the the actual conditions. And no – of course I don't bring all this suff every time.

For documenting found caches and to preserve images of the quite often beautiful nature.

Various Gear

Leki Makalu Trekking PolesLeki Makalu Trekking Poles
Nice and light Hi-Tech 'walking sticks'. The long one I bought in Chamonix, France and the short one I won during the »Bongo 2003«-event cache.

Victorinox »Recruit« Swiss Army Knife
A (legal) knife is always handy when geocaching.

Petzl Tikka Plus Small headlamp
Small headlamp. Hands free. Bright light from 4 LEDs. Powered by 3 ea. AAA cells.

MAG Mini Maglite AA
Small bright flashlight. Powered by 2 ea. AA cells.

Bag and backpack

Maxpedition Proteus Versipack
Small roomy bag for raingear, gloves, trading items, knife, calculator and ballpen.

Haglöfs Tight Large backpack
Roomy rucksack, but not too large. Perfect fit - also after several hours hiking.

Clothing and Boots

Fjällräven Greenland & Vidda trekking trousers
Good trekking trousers when it is not-so-warm. Save you from stinging-nettles and other carnivorous vegetation. I got mine in practical dark colours as shown in the picture.

Lowa Combat Boot GTX
These Gore-Tex boots are made for walking – with a little help from Special Air Service. These boots should outperform anything from Meindl and other leading boot manufacturers. We'll see. At least are high so fir needles and snow is kept out.

Salomon Experience Mid GTX trekking boots
These inexpensive and durable Gore-Tex boots were made for walking and have transported me many miles through various terrain whithout giving soar feet or blisters. After 4 years of use they still perform very well.
